Today in the square, we did not only paint a portrait.
We created a shared memory together.
People from ages 7 to 70 touched the brush.
Every color became a word.
Every brushstroke turned into a protest rising against violence.
In memory of Fatma Nur Çelik, an educator whose life was taken by her own student, little Hifa İkra, and the many women who have lost their lives to violence, we will continue to stand side by side against violence.
As a union, we defend the dignity of labor. When the life of a woman or a child is at stake, it is impossible to speak of freedom. During the week of March 8, we honor the memory of teacher Fatma Nur through the testimony of art.
As SANDEM, we refuse to remain silent in the face of violence against women and educators. The 3-meter collective portrait created in the square is not just a painting; it is our effort to keep memory alive and to give voice to lives that were cut short.
